Blanket Permission to Podfic

Hey flist,

So, if you've been reading my journal at all in the past year, you've probably noticed that I've kinda gotten into this whole podfic thing. And by "kinda" I actually mean most of my fannish time is spent making podfic, or listening to it, or writing meta about it. *headdesk*

I'm a little obsessed.

You've also probably noticed that I'm currently running a [community profile] podremix/[community profile] podremix exchange. As part of that exchange I've started a list of author's who have given blanket permission to record their fic.

If you're an author, please consider giving blanket permission. It makes things soooo much easier for podficers. And then let me know so I can add you to the list (I've been linking to places where author's give permission, if you put it in your profile or on you fic sticky post or whatever I can link to that and if you later change your mind it's easy to fix, or you can just leave a comment [here, or at the blanket permission post, wherever] and I'll link to that).

Really, podfic is awesome and there totally needs to be more of it! Don't be self conscious (seriously, I have blanket permission statements and I only have one tiny SCC fic which has already been podficed), if you have fic and are cool with the idea of podfic, let podficers know!

Podfic Remix Challenge Is Live

After the overwhelming support for the idea of a podfic remix challenge, I've set one up and sign ups are open.

You can find it at [community profile] podremix (Rules | Sign Ups) on DW

Or find it at [community profile] podremix (Rules | Sign Ups) on LJ

I encourage everyone to sign up. We welcome anyone, even if you're new to podfic and haven't any to offer for remix, or if you have podfics that you wouldn't mind seeing remixed but don't have time to make podfic right now.

Podfic Remix Challenge - Info Gathering

Back in June when there was a lot of podfic meta talk going on a couple people floated around the idea that it would be fun to have a podfic remix challenge. I was kind of hoping one would materialize but it doesn't look like any one has taken up the challenge. So of course I'm now thinking of running one. :)

What is a podfic remix challenge?
Much like the various fic remix challenges out there, a podfic challenge would involve putting the podfics you have made on the table and inviting another to make their own version of it. And in return you would make a podfic of a story another participant has already podficed.

Why would we do this?
Every reader brings a unique interpretation of the text. One reader will read a scene with a tinge of sadness, another with hopefulness. Some readers do voices, others add music to their podfics. Not to mention everyone has their own sound, feel and style. Two people can read the same fic and still produce two very different, yet equally awesome podfics.

I'm also hoping that running a challenge like this would help with the stigma that currently exists around multiple podfics of the same story. People seem to think that if someone makes a podfic of something that's already been podficed it's because they found the first podfic lacking in some way. Never mind that there are a lot of other reasons someone might want to podfic the story.

This won't be about that though and hopefully it'll help people realize that just because two podfics are a reading of the same story doesn't mean that they are copies of each other (podfic is not just a format shift from text to audio, it's an art form, a performance), or that one is necessarily better than the other. Just like a cover of a song can bring a new dimension/feel to the song.

Before I jump headlong into this challenge though, I wanted to see if there's an interest first. So, a poll )
Edit: Please pretend that I can count, and that the last question had the options 1, 2-4 and 5+ *headdesk*
